At Duchess Nursery we follow a range of pedagogies, including Montessori, to best support the needs of our children. Our routine is adaptable as needed and gives us the flexibility to allow more time for activities or outdoor learning walks and visits if we feel they are beneficial to the children’s enjoyment and development. We do however maintain regular routines to assist the settling process and to give reassurance to the children who need it.

We ensure our children play in a range of situations such as 1:1, small or large group and whole nursery, this provides for the benefit of the younger ages learning from their observation of the older children and allows the older children to take pride in responsibility and helping the little ones. Our key person system (every child has a key member of staff who support their family during the transition into the nursery and beyond) allows for tracking of development and progress making sure each child is getting the opportunities they need to reach their potential. Focussed group activities lead by the key staff mean that more defined learning opportunities or greater direction, support or extension can be achieved with the daily routines.

Further to the requirement of the Department of Education, Chatsworth Schools has closed our schools and nurseries with immediate effect. We will be doing our upmost to support our parents who are key workers as defined by the Government. Working together is an essential part of our national effort to combat this disease. We cannot stress highly enough how important it is to keep your child at home if you can. We will continue to follow the Government’s advice and will notify parents as soon as we are able to re- open.
