We like to go on lots of trips, and the children always love going shopping. On a recent trip we decided to go vegetable shopping, and in preparation the children were all given a small whiteboard to create their own shopping list. Using vegetable flashcards of broccoli, cabbage, carrots, potatoes and tomatoes the children had to choose three pictures and write the first letter of the vegetable on their whiteboard.
After we had all got ready (including our hi vis jackets) we took our 10 minute walk to the market. On route we stopped to look and talk about things we saw, including a fire engine, and played games like counting the cars.
At the market, the children were allowed to touch and pick out their vegetables, using their shopping list. The cost came to £8.20 and so we all talked about the value of the £10 note we handed over and then counted the change.
